The museum

Rediscover the daily life of the most remote human communities through the threads of time, with emotions, needs and aspirations that are ancient yet still relevant today.

The National Archaeological Museum of Verona was inaugurated in February 2022. It is housed in a former Habsburg-era prison, transformed from a closed and restrictive place into a meeting and exchange point open to the public.
The museum houses materials from the most significant recent excavations in the Verona area, within a layout divided into a series of subsections dedicated to the main prehistoric and protohistoric sites. A new section dedicated to the Roman era is currently being set up.

The museum is run by the Veneto Regional Museum Authority, part of the Ministry of Culture, and its director is Dr Giovanna Falezza.

Our Mission

The National Archaeological Museum of Verona aims to convey, in their immediacy, the emotions and everyday experiences of human groups and communities present in the Verona area throughout the ages.

The exhibits on display recount the insights of the human mind: Man’s journey through the process of perception and reflection with regard to the world around him.

The museum exhibition offers an experience of human history, with the empathy of the first discovery and its realisation in tangible actions (from individual objects to large monuments), intangible actions (beliefs and rituals) and interaction with the environment that becomes landscape.
